Skillnet
The South Kerry Skillnet project is an industry led training programme sponsored by the South Kerry Development Partnership as part of its ongoing programme of work to provide practical support to developing businesses and the wider community in the area. Funding for the project comes through Skillnets Ltd. from the National Training Fund through the Department of Enterprise, Trade & employment and through member companies to support the businesses in the area for the period 2008-2009.
Having properly trained staff is more important than ever in gaining a competitive advantage in business. Training is an ongoing requirement to ensure the skills of the staff of a business are maintained at the highest levels thus providing this competitive advantage. The training, mentoring and networking needs of the Skillnets project are determined on an ongoing basis by the member businesses thereby ensuring that the actual needs of the businesses and workforce in the region are met efficiently. In addition, all training will be delivered at times and at venues which suit the needs of the members – minimising the cost and disruption to the business.
It is possible to secure up to 75% of the cost of the direct from the South Kerry Skillnet project and there is also additional funding available for networking events and collaboration initiatives between member enterprises.
We are particularly supportive of small businesses and 97% of our current membership of 260 businesses have less than 50 people employed. Indeed 70% of our members have less than 10 people employed.
We are open to all private enterprises in the area and have members from all major sectors including hospitality, services, retail, agriculture manufacturing, construction, leisure, arts/crafts and fishing.
