Older People & Get Vocal

Sean Chairde is the network of Older people’s Groups in South Kerry; this includes Active Age groups as well as Social Care groups. The partnership and the HSE support the work of Sean Chairde. The network meets various times during the year and is managed by a core group. Its activities include organising a programme of tea dances, annual information day, producing newsletters, training courses, guest speakers, attending regional and national meetings. All of Sean Chairde’s activities are well supported by member groups. One of its key aims is to address isolation among older people in South Kerry. The success of its work was recognised through the County Community Awards 2009, when the network was the overall winner of the awards.

Get Vocal is a county-wide project that aims to strengthen the voice of Older People in Kerry. It will do this through building up the existing local networks of Older People’s groups and by setting up a county-wide network also. SKDP is the host organization on behalf of the steering group of organizations running the project. Through this project issues facing older people will be highlighted and working relations with various agencies and service providers will be strengthened to address the issues.
